The Framework of Bangladesh College of Veterinary Surgeons

Establishment of the College

Bangladesh College of Veterinary Surgeons (BCVS) will commence as a virtual college. Gradually the college will take the shape of a physical institution with support from the Government and development partners. Bangladesh Veterinary Council will accreditate the College and its program.

Members and fellows of the College

The affiliation to the Bangladesh College of Veterinary Surgeons will be in the following categories:

  • Member of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (MCVS)
  • Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (FCVS)
  • Honorary Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (Hon FCVS)

Member of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (MCVS)

  • MCVS is open to all veterinary graduates registered by Bangladesh Veterinary Council
  • A veterinary graduate will have to pass the board examination to become MCVS
  • The Board Examination shall be a MCQ test on computer to be conducted through international test service provider

Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (FCVS)

  • FCVS will be an earned qualification through residency training and examination
  • A veterinary graduate having requisite qualification and experience may apply for enrollment for FCVS examination
  • The selection will be on competitive basis

Honorary Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons (Hon FCVS)

  • The college will start with a small number of founder honorary fellows (may be 5) with high academic reputation, to be elected by the National Veterinary Dean Council
  • In future, the existing fellows (both honorary and earned fellows) may elect new Honorary Fellows (maximum 3 per year) by secret ballot from the candidates having extraordinary qualifications and contributions to veterinary science, who will either apply themselves or be nominated by other fellows

The Executive Council

  • The Executive Council will have 5 elected members and 4 members by virtue of position
  • The fellows and honorary fellows will elect 5 members of the executive council from among themselves
  • The Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, the Convener of National Veterinary Dean Council, President of Bangladesh Veterinary Council and President of Bangladesh Veterinary Association will be the members by virtue of position

The Council members will elect a Chairman from among themselves.
